I doubt Michelle Yeoh’s even gotten any sleep yet but we’re already looking to the next Oscar race. I did last year’s and some were on the mark (EEAAO, Elvis, The Fabelmans, and The Whale for noms/wins), but woof so so many were either way off (sorry not sorry Chazelle, O’Russell and their muse Margot Robbie).
A few movies listed from last year didn’t even come out, so we can add them here again:
[some movies back on the list again]— Martin Scorsese’s “The Killers of the Flower Moon” starring Leo DiCaprio
— Golda Meir biopic starring Helen Mirren
— David Fincher returns with “The Killer” starring Michael Fassbender & Tilda Swinton
— Taika Waititi’s back with “Next Goal Wins,” Michael Fassbender and Elisabeth Moss
— Yorgos Lanthimos’s “Poor Things” starring Mark Ruffalo and Emma Stone
IN ADDITION, starting off with the July 21 battle of the century:
— Greta Gerwig’s Barbie with Margot Robbie trying to redeem herself after last year
— vs. Chris Nolan’s star-studded white sausagefest biopic Oppenheimer, the Annual Baity World War movie
— Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro
— the musical film adaptation of The Color Purple starring Fantasia
— Wes Anderson’s newest star-studded extravaganza Asteroid City
— Joaquin Phoenix in TWO possibly baity movies – Napoleon AND Beau is Afraid
[let's keep going through the list]— Michael Mann’s Ferrari biopic starring Adam Driver
— crime drama The Bikeriders starring Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy & Michael Shannon
— Steve McQueen’s latest Blitz with Saoirse Ronan
— Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two back for the tech awards
— Lee Miller biopic starring Kate Winslet
— Sundance hit Magazine Dreams starring Jonathan Majors
— After the succession of Top Gun 2, we can’t ignore Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One
— Bayard Rustin biopic starring Colman Domingo
